What is a 'custom arrangement'?

When you purchase an arrangement from a large publisher, it is generally called a 'stock' arrangement (more than likely because they carry a large stock of titles available). When a director wants to do an arrangement that is either not available in print or piece together something different than what most other schools are doing, they have a 'custom-made' arrangement done just for them.

Why should I purchase a custom arrangement?

Most competition show choir directors wish to have an 'edge' over other groups during competitions, and having a more unique arrangement, even if it's a title that 'everyone else is doing', gives your show choir that 'edge'.

Why are custom arrangements so expensive?

We understand that buying stock arrangements costs considerably less than buying custom arrangements. The main reason for the higher price is to cover the permission fee for each song. Those fees can range from $100 to $175 for each title. Medley titles average $100 for each title. The paperwork involved in submitting and getting permission to arrange is also very time consuming. At Music Arrangement Services, we take care of the permission fees for you, making it extremely convenient for you to purchase custom arrangements.

How long does it take to get a custom arrangement?

The usual time it takes to create an arrangement from start to finish is around two to three days (for a single-titled work). However, the director must schedule the time in advance and have all materials ready. The director may even need to make a deposit on the music before the music is started. Payment or purchase order is expected before music is sent to the school.

If the arranger is scheduled far in advance, what do I need to do?

Your arrangement time can be scheduled far in advance if you choose to do so without even having chosen your music. This allows you to plan well ahead, particularly for the following school year. Music Arrangement Services will contact you about a month before your scheduled time to remind you to get your materials together, or to see if you are still interested in the time frame. Scheduled times on our calendar are held on a no-obligation basis by both parties.

What materials do I need to send to the arranger?

Our arranger only requires a recording of the song you wish to have arranged. It is suggested to also have notes regarding 'cuts' and edits so that you can get the arrangement that you hear in your head (or what you see on stage). It is not necessary to send sheet music. It is also very important to let us know the artist or author of the song so that we can research who has the licensing.
